Hibdon Hardwood, an OLF Sponsor, is offering a Granadillo promotion. Granadillo is a faily wide ranging tree, from Mexico, through Central America, and down into South America. It has a number of common names: macacauba, macawood, trebol, to name a few. It is of the Platymiscium genus, with a number of species within the genus. It is of similar weight and color to Honduars rosewood. It is not endangered and the wood Hibdon Hardwood sells is from a FSC Certified plot. It is abundant, not terribly expensive, and quartersawn sets are not difficult to come by. Here is the promotion: We will ship a set of Granadillo at no charge to the first 10 registered OLF members who call the office at: 314-621-7711. The only hitch is we ask you to actually build a guitar with it (rather than put it on a shelf) and share photos, experiences with the wood, and impressions of its sonic signature with the OLF community. The sets are well dried, but will have to be acclimatized to your building enviornment before actual construction begins. We feel Granadillo is a great tonewood just waiting in the wings. We are hoping this promotion will generate the interest this wood deserves. |

Nice deal, thanks very much. I may use this for the build off contest over on the non-"s" luthier forum, I'll put pics on my blog, too. |

I have heard from Brock Poling that this wood has very similar characteristics to Brazilian rosewood. |

Lance, it's not what it looks like, I have a good explanation for all of this, they mean nothing to me... :) Just wanted them to know I did intend on posting pictures and whatnot... |

Many thanks to Tom for bringing this promotion to the forum, and to Andrew at Hibdon for making it happen. I haven't used Granadillo before so I'm looking forward to the build. It is pretty cool, 10 sister sets built into 10 different guitars by 10 different builders! Hmmm... Will they have a family reunion someday??? long |

Thanks to all those who exprssed an interest in this promotion. The 10 sets went in a blink of an eye! We are willing to extend the offer in a slightly revised form. Through the end of business today, if you spend at least $75 (the cost of a granadillo set), we will throw in a set of granadillo free. Regular shipping charges apply. |

Just ordered a set of Granadillo and Cocobolo from Tom. I worked with Granadillo many years ago on another project and it is a very dense hardwood. I always thought it would be good for guitars...I guess I will have my chance to give it a shot. |

This is a cool promotion for so many reasons. Apart from learning about a wood we haven't worked with before, it's always fun to see what ten different luthiers do with sister sets of wood! I think this presents an opportunity not only for Hibdon, but for the community and the forum as well to do something really cool. Perhaps we could organize our pics and comments in this project on the forum front and center. That would make it much easier to track what everyone is doing than if we all just randomly post new threads that tend to work their way off the radar screen after a few days. For the others who were fortunate enough to participate in this promotion, I would be interested in hearing what you plan to do with the finished instrument as well. For me, I tend to follow the "pay it forward" principle when I benefit from something like this; my finished product will either end up as a gift to a friend/relative, or will be donated to a charity auction. |

Just got in under the wire. Couldn't let an offer this good go by, so two sets of granadillo on the way - one for a cedar top, the other for Lutz. Both Bouchet-inspired classicals. Nice folks. ______________________ David Barnett Southwest FL |

Thanks to all those who took advantage of this offer. Hibdon Hardwood will be looking forward to seeing pictures, reading posts, and maybe even listening to sound clips of granadillo guitars in the future. |
